Our Story

The Lavender Farm of Shallowater, TX was started in April of 2019 by the Hill family. A little over five years ago, Ray and Nanette bought 30 acres on which their home and The Lavender Farm are now located. They initially had a vision of putting in a grape vineyard, but that was before they visited what is called “The Fruit Loop” in Hood River, OR which is along the Columbia River. This eight-mile loop entertains apple, strawberry, blueberry, cherry, vegetable, and to their delight, some of the most beautiful Lavender farms you can find in the United States.

They were sold on bringing the beauty of these Lavender fields home! There were a million questions, and research began that year and continued into the next. A trip to Sequim, WA, which is home to the largest Lavender festival and the largest American Lavender farms was scheduled. They met their 35-year veteran educator and mentor Victor Gonzales during that time. After days of classes, research, and training they took the next steps of environmental, soil, and climate research, compiling over 100 years of information to determine the varieties that would survive in West Texas.

To their amazement and delight, the highest grossing essential oil variety would thrive right here in Cotton Country, Lavendula x-intermedia, a hybrid of English and Portuguese Lavender, or simply Grosso Lavender.

The Lavender Farm has truly been a family affair. Ray and Nanette are forever grateful for all those who teamed up to plant the first 2.5 acres in April 2019 (over 2500 plants by hand)! They are so excited to share the relaxing beauty of the farm with you.

Essential oil is by far our FAVORITE product because it has so many uses! In fact, the oil-producing capacity of the Grosso variety is one reason why we chose to plant over 3000 plants of this type at The Lavender Farm.

We love diffusing this product as it is great for aroma therapy, putting a few drops in bath water for a nice, hot, relaxing soak, sprinkling a few drops onto clean, wet towels prior to drying for a fresh fluff. You can also apply a small amount to wrists or behind the ears before bed to enhance restful sleep...the possibilities are endless!
